Silicon Peninsula #016 — FADU's earnings and Gen6 sales run on different clocks
Tuesday, October 20, 2026 · For enterprise-SSD product and supplier teams
The tape — a stronger commercial baseline
FADU's new preliminary earnings change the commercial baseline for anyone evaluating its controller roadmap: this is a supplier reporting substantial operating revenue, alongside a next-generation sales plan. Our conclusion is to advance product-specific diligence now, while keeping current business, announced orders and future products in separate columns. The useful question is which controller and qualification schedule your own program would depend on.
This edition examines the company's October 19 disclosure, checked on October 20. English coverage already exists; this is a decision-oriented source analysis, with no exclusivity claim. Nasdaq's public SOX page did not yield a verifiable current quote during our check, so we omit a market-price explanation. Market source.
The decision sheet
| What changed | Implication | Action now |
|---|---|---|
| Preliminary earnings establish a larger operating business. | Supplier diligence can start from reported activity. | Request the product mix and applicable support arrangements. |
| Announced new orders extend beyond the earnings period. | They provide a demand signal on a different time basis. | Map contract delivery windows before estimating conversion. |
| Gen6 selling is planned for year-end. | Your qualification clock still needs its own milestones. | Ask for an evaluation schedule, firmware baseline and acceptance criteria. |
Signal 1 — use the filing's period and precision
The consolidated preliminary filing reports third-quarter revenue of ₩143.561 billion and operating profit of ₩36.269 billion. Revenue increased 96.2% from the preceding quarter. The reporting period ends September 30; external accounting review was incomplete and the figures may change. October 19 DART filing.
Why it matters: Our interpretation is that this supports more serious commercial diligence. A supplier team can ask about delivery execution, firmware maintenance and support capacity against a real reported operating base. It does not need to infer business activity solely from a technology demonstration.
For planning, retain the exact filing values in the working model and rounded values in presentation slides. Keep a reconciliation field for revisions. This disclosure alone does not allocate revenue to a particular controller generation or establish cash collection, so neither belongs in a product forecast without additional evidence.
Signal 2 — orders need a conversion bridge
The company's accompanying release describes approximately ₩456.3 billion in newly announced orders through October. That spans a different period from quarterly earnings and is not presented here as an outstanding-backlog balance. Company release, October 19.
Why it matters: The useful next document is a bridge between announced contracts and recognized revenue. For a buyer assessing supply continuity, the questions are delivery timing, production allocation and support obligations. For a commercial analyst, they include amendments, cancellations and the accounting period in which delivery becomes revenue.
Start with individually disclosed delivery windows and reconcile subsequent changes. Do not subtract quarterly revenue mechanically from an order headline: overlapping periods and previously recognized deliveries can make that calculation misleading. Until the bridge is available, use the order announcement as a reason to investigate commercial execution, rather than a precise forecast of next-quarter sales.
Signal 3 — distinguish the three product clocks
FADU says Gen5 controllers are being supplied, Gen6 development is complete with full-scale sales planned from year-end, and Gen7 customer sampling is targeted for 2028. These are company roadmap statements. Company roadmap.
Why it matters: An SSD product manager should ask which generation is available for their particular qualification program. A sales-start plan does not itself specify your evaluation-board arrival, firmware freeze, validation completion or production acceptance. Put those milestones into the supplier discussion and assign an owner to each.
Our earlier FS-SSD analysis covered a different question: moving file-related work into storage. Today's earnings release supplies a stronger company-level commercial baseline. It does not isolate FS-SSD revenue or establish customer acceptance of that architecture. Maintain separate rows for the architectural demonstration and the controller roadmap instead of combining them into one adoption claim.
Korea-only radar — transparency over scarcity
The Korean disclosure is useful because it supplies the reporting period, precision and preliminary-status warning. It is not an English-language information gap: English reports were found during this check. Our added value must therefore be the decision sheet, reconciliation work and follow-up record.
Today's number
25.3% is the preliminary operating margin calculated as 36.269 ÷ 143.561, rounded. This is our arithmetic from the filing, not a cash margin, product margin or forecast.
Seven-day calendar — what would change our view
On October 23, revisit the FS-SSD evidence checkpoint from the earlier issue. By October 27, check for product-specific qualification, delivery or roadmap updates and any earnings revision. These are our review dates, not company event promises. A dated customer acceptance or delivery document would strengthen the commercialization assessment; a revised schedule would change the planning assumptions. If neither appears, retain the current assessment and name the evidence still needed.
